Time Deffinition

Home | William James's Idea on Time Perception

What is time?

Before we begin we must first discuss what time is. The dictionary definition is:

A no spatial continuum in which events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future.

Now as you look at time you realize that in all apparent matters, as time passes we do not move. Time is always passing past us. Therefore time is a continuum.

Continuum means that it is always moving and therefore we have no way of measuring it except by arbitrary division.

With the use of arbitrary division we make up divisions not based on reason but merely by chance or on a whim. Therefore, the time system that we use is quite wrong. That is the reason that we have February, daylight savings time, leap years, and winter. (I was just kidding on that last one.) In fact time need not be defined by anything at all. It just is.

One popular theory is that there really is no time at all. Just parallel universes. This means that there are an infinite amount of universes with different things happening, all-breaking at different points. For example, there would be an infinite amount of universes with you waking up this morning. From there each on would be different or following and breaking in a different point. One universe would exist where you got up on the right side of the bed, one where you got up on the left. One where you blinked, one where you went back to sleep. One where you swayed 1/1000 of an inch to the left, one where you went 1/1000 of an inch forward, ect... Also note that none of the universes would be defined by any sort of physics at all.

Time was not extracted, faxed from heaven, based on anything at all but more just realized, man-defined, and labeled. But, for ease of this project, lets just say that the system we have imposed is correct and time actually is a continuum, and there are not parallel universes.
